From Amazon.com:
Madonna?s eleventh, and final, studio album for Warner Bros., Hard Candy is a brilliant up-tempo collection that adds a hip-hop beat to the cultural icon?s club sensibilities, thanks to collaborations with Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, and Nate "Danja" Hills. Following her previous studio album, 2005?s Confessions On A Dance Floor, which debuted #1 and has sold more than 8 million copies around the globe, Hard Candy punctuates the first 25 years of the album career of the most successful female artist in history with a musical exclamation point. Some have said that this was going to be Madonna's final album. Is she retiring from show business? Well, she damn well better not! She was just inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and she deserved to be. I've been a Madonna fan since BORDERLINE and HOLIDAY were on the pop/rock charts. Anyway, here's another great set of original tracks such as 4 MINUTES with Justin Timberlake, late of N'Sync. Maybe Madonna was dropped from the Warner Bros. label after recording on the label for the last quarter-century. She has enough hit material now for a "Greatest Hits Volume 3" collection, since she had three studio albums following the 2001 release of GREATEST HITS VOLUME 2(AMERICAN LIFE,CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR and this album). The third Greatest Hits collection could even feature her hits that appeared on neither THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION or GHV2 such as TRUE BLUE,ANGEL,WHO'S THAT GIRL?,BURNING UP,HANKY PANKY,KEEP IT TOGETHER and DRESS YOU UP. Some sources say that Madonna is the biggest-selling female solo artist in pop/rock music history. I once thought Whitney Houston would be that. Mariah Carey is the second biggest-selling female solo artist in pop/rock music history. Except Carey doesn't qualify for induction into the RARHOF until 2015. I just bought this CD,but haven't yet played it. But I know I'll love it.

Let me add my voice to the chorus of five-star reviews for Madonna's latest musical effort. She continues to surprise and delight and HARD CANDY is a solid effort: danceable, in step with the times (as only Madge can be), and a slickly-produced winner. It's very rare I buy a CD on which I love every single song...but that's the case here. This is one you'll listen to again and again...it only gets better!

What a mistake! I should have known from the flat, cliched, and plainly unattractive cover this would be bad. Terrible production, fake sounding ( or maybe they were fake) drums, her vocals were mixed as if in a distant tunnel with those gdawful drums beating the life out of the mix. And the worst lyrics. Cliched and babyish and dull dull dull.
And Madonna herself- I will give her credit, her voice was pretty good but she seemed depressed and lifeless actually. No pizazz or charisma. As if she was going thru the motions knowing she would make even more money than any human really needs, and doing "sigh" one more set of pictures showing her as "That madly sexual creature everyone expects". She has a great body, she can dance as we all know, but that was the ugliest outfit of all time. (I am all for any and all women being creative and beautiful and sexual no matter their ( our) ages, and maybe Madonna thinks she looks great and sexy. To each their own but to ME, I shoulda known. )
This music was just so bland and UN funky, UN soulful and unlistenable.
I am SO glad I also ordered that Marvin Gaye box set.

I have to say that this is my least favorite Madonna album.
Buried under the pointless raps and overdone production and overlong repetition is a really great pop album. But unfortunately the hip-hop fools move in and destroy nearly every song. I like "Miles Away" and "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" (except for the stupid Boyz II Men type harmony toward the end of the song) and "Voices" (except for Justin Timberlake's silly intro), but other than that, the album falls flat.
Listening to it, I kept wishing that it was just a simple pop album, then it would have been wonderful. "Incredible" is the lightest and bounciest song she's written since "La Isla Bonita," but it's ruined by running too long and collapsing into mindless repetition. Nearly all the songs on this album suffer from too long a running time. Alas.
My favorite of Madge's albums remains Bedtime Stories.
