Product Description:
This is considered the standard lens for use with Canon SLR cameras
From Amazon.com:
Lightweight and affordable, the Canon EF 50mm lens--which offers a fast f/1.8 aperture--is an excellent lens for people who prefer a fixed focal length. Canon's lightest EF lens at a mere 4.6 ounces, the lens boasts a traditional Gauss-type optical design that delivers a sharp performance even when wide open. As a result, the lens provides an image that's extremely close to how your eye perceives a subject, making it excellent for portraits and images that require a natural depth of field. In addition, the lens focuses as close as 18 inches, helping you take extreme close-ups. Finally, the lens offers an excellent color balance. As with all Canon lenses, the lens carries a one-year warranty. - Focal length: 50mm
- Maximum aperture: 1:1.8
- Lens construction: 6 elements in 5 groups

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens Review

This lens cost me $85. The image quality worth 1 million dollar. Sharp, sharp and sharp. Excellent saturation and contrast. Compare to my sigma 17-50, I feel shame to have the sigma lens. Just returned sigma 17-50. Start saving money for F1.3 version. No, actually, I want to get the 17-40 F4 lens first. Too bad, Canon does not make 14-24 mm.
Anyway, perfect 5 stars.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens Review

I purchased this lens for my canon rebel because I couldn't afford the 1.4 lens. I wasn't disappointed. It takes such beautiful pictures of my grandson that I am now getting paid to take pictures of other children.
The only thing that I do not like about it is the ability to zoom in. I have to get close to the subject. With the money that I am making I hope to order the 1.4 soon. I can't imagine it being better though.
For the money I don't think you will be disappointed.

This lens takes great pictures, but why spend $85 for such a limited lens. Save your money and buy one that has a 17-55 range.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens Review

Instead of buying the Canon XSi as a kit, I purchased the body only and this lens. I had heard great things about it, and I have not been disappointed. Since its a 50mm lens, it doesnt work great in small spaces (since you will tend to be too close to your subject), but I havent found that to be much of an issue at all. This really is a great little lens for the money!
