One of the most anticipated titles in PlayStation2 history absolutely lives up to the hype. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is the follow-up to one of the most captivating and intelligent adventures on the original PlayStation. Solid Snake, everyone's favorite mullet-sporting supersoldier, is back, along with many other familiar faces and voices. While its predecessor was lauded for telling a complex story, this sequel has even more fascinating twists and turns. Also, like Metal Gear Solid, MGS2 takes console-game storytelling to an entirely new level with stunning in-game movies, great graphics, and game mechanics that let you find your own solutions to challenges. The game's twisting and at times bizarre plot will undoubtedly keep some gamers perplexed.
Konami has replaced the moronic enemies from the first MGS with more cerebral and capable foes; this causes an even greater emphasis on stealth than the original. The controls have been refined and Snake's repertoire of moves has grown, significantly deepening the gameplay. This is, technically and stylistically, one of the best-looking PS2 games on the market. The sound is also topnotch, with a fabulous score and outstanding voice acting. What makes this game such a standout, however, is how all of these sight, sound, and story elements combine to immerse the player into an entertainment form somewhere between movie and game. GREAT GAME! STUNNING GRAPHICS!!! Sometimes I just feel like staring at the screen and admire the graphics, although I'm being killed by bad guys. The plot is crazy, but, despite that, it actually seems to make sense to a certain degree. It also has great replay values, so definitely buy this if you like replaying games (like me). I think I spent a total of over 40 hours playing the game. Ok, stop reading reviews and buy the game. You will see what I mean. |

Probably my alltime favorite video game franchise with the exception of the Madden football games. The original Metal Gear was one of the first games I owned for the old Nintendo NES. And even though the kids today would go back and look at that game and laugh, it was still so far ahead of it's time with it's concept and plot twists.
This game is the equivalant of watching a great Hollywood action movie. Cutscenes do get a little long on here even more so than on MGS 1 but it does tell a great story with tons of twists. Something about the Metal Gear games remind me of the show "24" or should I say "24" reminds me of Metal Gear. I have to think the creators of "24" had to be Metal Gear fans since the show deals with some of the same issues such as treason, corrupt government officials, conspiracies and never knowing when someone you thought was an ally is selling you out. And you must admit Snake is a bada$$ just like Jack Bauer. The only reason I'm knocking a star off of this rating is for the same reason that so many other reviewers have. Having to play 75% of the games as Raiden. Huh! Come on! Not being able to play this game as Snake and instead playing with the wussy punk Raiden would be like "24" replacing Jack Bauer with that guy from "High School Musical". I just don't understand why they did this. I must admit when I started playing this game and realized this it was like finding out there was no Santa Claus. Once I got over the initial shock and disappointment though, the game is still great and hard to put down. |

I got this as a gift for my younger brother. He was so happy when it arrived because it completes his collection of MGS Games. This came in good condition and kept my brother occupied for 3 hours or so. |

This is a fantastic game! It takes a while to get used to (some aspects are a little strange at first), but you will grow to love everything about it. The plot, though incredibely complicated is amazingly crafted and will blow your mind. The gameplay is amazing-the controls are tricky at first, but once you master them you have more control than with most games. The graphics couldn't be better. Besides MGS3, I haven't seen better graphics for PS2.
The bosses you fight are great-from Vamp, an immortal vampire to Solidus, a clone of Snake bent on taking down the Patriots to Fatman, a crazy bomber. Also, you use some awesome weapons which you can pick up along the way. Some examples are the M4, M9, AK-74u and socom. For the first tiny section of the game, you play as Snake, the protagonist of MGS1. Then, as a twist, you play as Raiden, a young, somewhat androgynous soldier with a dark past for about 95% of it. After playing this game once, I decided I prefered MGS3. But after playing a again, I've realized just how great MGS2 is. It's more than just a video game. It is a truly captivating story, with an incredible plot and engaging characters. It encompasses philisophical issues and conspiracy theories while remaining a very fun game to play. By the end, you will have gone though an amazing journey and you'll feel completely satisfied with the story's ending. I cannot reccomend this game enough. I don't know how to explain how fantastic this game is. Simply play it. |
