Wii Classic Controller Review

One nice feature that has been mostly overlooked with the classic controller is that it can replace the nunchuck on most games. If you are buying a second remote and have the classic controller, a second nunchuck may not be nessessary.

I am nuts when it comes to video games. The classic wii controller is a must for anyone who is downloading old SNES or N64 games, unless you have a game cube controller then you do not need this. I would advise that you only buy one controller. I bought two have a family of 4. I am the only one who plays the old stuff, my daughter does too occasionally, but never to the point that I felt the need to open the 2nd controller. Buy one see if its enough for your house. If not you can buy a 2nd later on.

It works, but it is not very comfortable. You still have to plug it to the Wii controller, so you'll have that hanging and/or around you. Get the Nyko Wii Wing Wireless Controller instead, it is $10 more, but worth the money.

There's too many buttons on this for any downloadable wii game or Smash Bros. Brawl.
If you're looking for the best controller for any of these, go out NOW and do yourself a huge favor by buying an official Nintendo Gamecube Wavebird WIRELESS controller (this thing may be reviewed by some as "wireless", but the huge image with a WIRE sticking out of the controller because it's plugged in a Wiimote is a big clue that it's not wireless at all!). The 'bird is the best controller for a video game system, perhaps ever.
This thing's button-party and Wiimote wired hookup are huge detractions in my enjoyment of 99% of the games I've ever played on the Wii. Nintendo should have been able to find a way to make this controller wireless 100% by using a similar power-up feature to the wiimotes, assigning the controller to players 1-4, and eliminating the need to dangle a controller somewhere.

Wish it was wireless but works well.... -

I bought the classic controller specifically to play donkey kong country on the virtual console. I like the setup on the controller but think it feels a bit cheap and that it might break if I drop it more than 2 feet. However, it works perfectly for the game. The one big thing I don't like about it is that the cord to hook up to the wii remote comes out from the bottom. This gets in the way much more than if the cord came out from the top like most controllers do. Other than that, and the fact that it is not wireless, this is a decent controller. Hopefully, Nintendo will come out with a wireless version soon!! (or something that keeps the wii remote and the classic controller together so it's not as hard to pass to someone else if you only have one controller!)
