Red Rings, December 19, 2008
|
|
|
Well...it finally happened to me. I read all the reviews about the dreaded "Red Rings of Death", but still wanted the 360. I got the Elite Console just over a year ago thinking that it would be above that problem but....no. I was playing NCAA Football 09 and it froze just today. I turned it off, turned it back on, and...red ring. Three to be exact. I called customer support, got a number and directions to mail the box in. I guess if I don't do everything EXACTLY like they tell me, they won't fix the box. So they agree it's their problem, but treat me like I did something...nice. So, it's the holidays now and I have gifts people have gotten me that I will not even be able to use. Customer support told me I would not have the console back for 4-5 weeks.

Buy the PS3 instead, December 17, 2008

This product is junk. Another example of Microsoft releasing a product to market before it is ready. Before you buy this unit google "xbox 360 red ring of death." Some estimate the failure rate at 33% for these units. I had the red ring with an E74 error code (you can google that too), and even though my unit was less than one year old Microsoft told me that it would not be covered by warranty, but I could have the privilege of paying them $100, in advance, to send them my unit and have them send me a refurbished unit within 6 weeks (I'm sure the refurbished unit would last a nice long time too).
This link is to an article about the latest preventable defect with this unit:
http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/microsoft-faces-new-xbox-360-reliability-accusations/1274293
I'm giving this unit one star only because I cannot figure out how to give it no stars. Buy a PS3 instead.

360 elite 4 free, December 17, 2008

My son loves 360 elite. He plays his uncles that his uncle got for free. We are now getting one for free. All you have to do is go to [...] then complete one offer. There are many to choose from. I suggest something like Blockbuster, Netflix, or Gamefly because they are the ones I no to be really safe. You then refer others to do the same. You can talk to friends or post on message boards.

Xbox 360 Elite is Elite, December 14, 2008

I am a junior in college (music major) and I had been needing a new video game system for a LONG time (I'd been playing on a Nintendo 64 for years!) I've had the opportunity over the years to play with my friends and family on Playstations, Wiis, Xboxs, and everything else. However, the Xbox won me over. I was blown away by the graphics the Elite cranked out. They're amazing on my TV back in my dorm room (1080i) and here at home (1080p). In addition, it acts as a higher-quality DVD player for me. As a college student, this is a plus when you don't have the luxury of space. I signed up for the warranty with Microsoft and the system has been a dream for me. I've had a blast watching DVDs and playing BioShock, Fable II, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, and Gears of War 2. AMAZING.
What really motivated me to buy this was Rock Band 2. After playing on a friend's Xbox and hearing about downloading content, I wanted to buy a system that would let me have MAXIMUM hard-drive storage. I'm hoping to pick up Rock Band 2 over Christmas, as well as Xbox Live. THEN, I'd be able to tell everyone how cool Xbox Live is.
In short, if you're looking for a sleek video game system that saves space, plays DVDs and video games, and has an enormous hard-drive to store downloaded content, music, pictures, and everything else...invest in an Xbox 360 Elite.

Quieter than my original white Xbox 360 (got the red ring of death on that unit, bought this one to have something do use until the other came back from the free warranty repair). When the original came back, I was finally able to have a second Xbox to move to my new LCD TV that has 1080P support. This unit has the HDMI out, so easy to hook up, and graphics are incredible. With the white one as a media center extender to the plasma hanging on my bedroom wall, and this new Elite on the LCD in the great room, I'm set and very happy. Black matches the equipment much better than the white one, so it looks good up by the TV and the computer. Games run great and the unit has been rock solid despite the many hours used, either as an extender or a game console.
Not a fan of the new avatar based update, but at least it doesn't detract from the games.
