Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Wireless Bundle Review

I agree with others that say are upset about the dongle when the PS3 has perfectly functional Bluetooth capability. I've been having problems with interference depending on where in the house I try to play the game. Between cordless phones, microwaves and wireless routers, there are just too many devices opertin in the same frequency range.
I'm also extremely PO'ed that the various companies involved in Guitar Hero and Rock Band games can't get over their differences and settle on a single controller (modeled after the wonderful SixAxis controller, with Bluetooth, etc...) that works on all of the games. They need to remember why their games are so popular (the customers) and try a little harder to make the ownership process a little easier. I'm stuck returning a GH III guitar for a GH World Tour guitar, simply because it's compatible with more games.
Finally, why in the world are the controllers so incompatible with each other and with older systems that I can't play GH I, GH II and the other PS2 games on my backward compatible PS3? I was given GH II as a gift and it played in my PS3, but only if I used the SixAxis controller. That's not only completely defeating the purpose of a guitar-simulation game, but virtually impossible on the harder levels.
Overall, great idea, but poor execution. Oh, and the song list is not very good either. GH II had much better songs. GH World Tour is better, too, even though it's by the same companies that cam together for this incarnation of the game.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Wireless Bundle Review

Okay... I finally broke down and got this game since Amazon had the bundle down to $50. I have avoided this game because of the cult-like following it seems to have of kids playing it. I'm 26 years old...which means I probably shouldn't be playing it.
Why do I hate it? This game is freaking addictive! I understand why it has a cult. I started fooling around with it and four hours later I realized I had wasted four hours of my life...and I didn't want to stop even then!
I recognize just about all of the songs and that adds to the enjoyment I guess. Good game...far too addictive! :)

bad mechanics, bad game -

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Wireless Bundle Review

this particular version of guitar hero suffers from extremely bad mechanical problems. please note that this is only specific to GH3 on the PS3. I have played GH3 on the wii and it is fine. I have also played every other GH game (including GH4 on the PS3) and this combination is the only problem. When I first purchased the game, the game was almost unplayable. There was one calibration for lag, and it didnt work. I could not play the game. even easy sections that just required slow strumming would miss notes. Then a fix was made for this lag problem, which somewhat fixed it. however, i could still not play songs like i could with previous guitar hero songs. here are the problems with this bundle even after the "fix":
-there is still a calibration issue with both audio and video lag
-even when calibrated, you might have to re-calibrate each time you turn on your ps3
-the guitar is no good. i dont like the strumming, or the buttons. i bought a nyko wireless guitar from amazon and it is 500 times better.
-the menus take way too long to advance, several seconds after you hit a button
-the songs are way harder than before, but is this because of the calibration issue?
-the guitar is too quiet in many songs, and requires much volume adjustment to 'feel' like you are actually playing the song
-the sound is not right...certain sections are way loud or only on one channel. when you miss only one note you might not hear the next 5 seconds of song. if you dont hold down a long note to the very end, it will also put a gap in the audio. some guitar sections within songs are too different sounding and much louder or quieter.
-even when i calibrate with the fix, and use my new nyko guitar, the songs are not very leinient with your 'window' of hitting a note. these are very tough songs.
-the tracklist is the worst yet.
luckily, there is a much better game for the PS3...its called guitar hero 4 (world tour) and if you use a nyko guitar, ALL of the above complaints are resolved. i think they just threw GH3 for the PS3 together as quickly as possible and didnt test it well enough to find all the frustrating problems that make this particular bundle a waste of money and time.
